After getting the POTA bug, I wanted to do another one. Originally, I was thinking about Manchester State Park. Having been there once before on a camping trip, I knew it had a similar setup to Illahee State Park where I’d done the last POTA.
I just missed the last Fauntleroy-Southworth ferry and the next one was delayed. While waiting, I did some more POTA browsing. For whatever reason, I decided to save Manchester for later and explore somewhere new to me by checking out some parks on the Key Penninsula.
I selected Haley State Park (US-12309), which is an undeveloped state park. The land was donated to the state who has plans to develop it with some basic amenities, but for now it’s a piece of forested land with only a couple trails running through to the beach.
I parked on the side of the road, and entered a break in the forest. Nothing was signed but a trail continued into the woods. There are some basic signs and the trail is well maintained.

About a mile in, the mostly flat trail descends down a fairly steep hill with a lot of roots. Since I had my bike with me, I set up my radio, antenna, and chair off the trail in a small clearing at the top of the bluf. I’ll have to go back another time all the way down to the beach on foot.
The POTA was fairly successful. I brought the EFHW again, mostly working on 20m but with a few 10m, 15m, and 40m contacts.
